Position Overview:

  • The Food & Nutrition Services Director, who under the general direction of the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, works with others in the development, administration, and supervising of the school food service program within the Diocese of Lafayette’s catholic school system.
  • The person in this position must be capable of acting in a courteous and professional manner, with complete confidentiality. 
  • The Director must be a team player who will share and participate in the vision and goals of the office, following all office and diocesan policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • The person in this position must be able to multi-task and handle stressful situations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the annual Department of Education reports (Policy Checklist, Schedule A,
  • Collection Procedures & Officials) which are vital pieces of information for obtaining and approval to participate in the [National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast
  • Program & After School Snack Program].
  • Attends all Louisiana Department of Education & USDA training.
  • Understands the aims, objectives, and governing regulations of the food & nutrition services programs.
  • To develop, initiate, and interpret a nutrition education program and coordinate nutrition and educational opportunities for school food service employees, students, teaching staff, parents, and the community.
  • To utilize the school food service program as an application of sound nutrition and as a means for improving the health and nutrition of the students.
  • To plan in-service training programs, personnel conferences, and regular staff meetings.
  • To plan menus that comply with USDA meal requirements and student acceptance.
  • To make available standardized recipes and require portion control to be used in the preparation and serving of food, along with establishing high standards for food preparation and services.
  • Maintains accuracy of recipes with the input of the Multi-Site Managers and ingredientfile in the computer program.
  • Ability to understand and apply Food Buying Guide principles.
  • Entry of cycle menus into computer purchasing program.
  • Develop and administer accurate accounting procedures and records for adequate control and management of income, labor, food, supplies, and other costs.
  • To become knowledgeable of all local and state health laws and regulations
  • Is Serv-Safe Certified (or willing to obtain certification upon employment) and keeps informed of food service trends to improve and upgrade the program.
  • To enforce state and local laws relative to labor, sanitation, safety, and fire prevention.

  • Work closely with school's staff in planning food service facilities including layouts.
  • Establishes and implements all handbook revisions (HACCP, Wellness, Food & Nutrition
  • Services, Procurement, Employee and Central Office Handbooks)
  • Co-implements with the Assistant Director, personnel policies for school food service employees, basic job descriptions, standards for performance, evaluation tools, and salary schedule
  • Oversees all purchases, bid documents, claim reports, menu development and staffing hours.
  • Creating and entering menus into the software template drives for the entire FNS program.
  • Oversees all meal modification forms for all school sites. Collaborates with the warehouse manager and school site managers to provide gluten-free, dairy-free, and all other reasonable accommodations.
  • Works closely with Assistant Director and school staff in planning food services facilities, including layouts.
  • Along with the Assistant Director, monitors and evaluates school site cafeterias and ensures that all practices comply with USDA regulations.
  • Final check for accuracy of the monthly claims for reimbursement.
  • Presents appropriate materials to employees and school administrators in annual workshops.
  • To serve as advisor to the SNALD board.
  • To serve as authorized signatory on all Food & Nutrition bank accounts.
  • Maintains and establishes a professional working rapport with the FNS Assistant
  • Director, entire FNS staff, and the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.



Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Home Economics, Institutional
  • Management, Food Technology or Public Health Nutrition from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
  • Must be a Licensed and Registered Dietitian in the State of Louisiana. National and
  • State Licensure must be in good standing and renewed annually.
  • Experience of at least five years in Food & Nutrition Services program or food service.
  • Good communication skills and is comfortable speaking to large groups to guarantee training of employees are accomplished.
  • Must maintain up-to-date personal certification for diocesan Safe Environment program.
  • Ability to quickly and objectively analyze situations to determine a proper course of action; and to act effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate and interact with the many different persons who are in contact with the office.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, organized, prompt in performing tasks, and capable of working independently.
  • Strong supervisory, organizational, leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of and experience in current office-related computer system/program(s), including but not limited to WORD, EXCEL, and OUTLOOK.


Job Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to sit, stand, ambulate, speak, hear, reach, and perform repetitive motions of the fingers, hands and wrists.
  • Specific seeing abilities include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry items up to 20 pounds.
  • Work is performed in an office and outdoor setting with periods of high stress.
  • Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License and have dependable personal transportation readily available, with appropriate insurance coverage.
  • May be called upon to work beyond the regular work schedule on weekends, evenings or holidays.
