Lafayette is No. 1 on Leading Locations list
Lafayette topped the U.S. in Area Development's list of 380 metropolitan statistical areas studied for its Leading Locations list, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority said in a news release this morning.
"Lafayette has seen significant economic growth in recent years and this recognition from Area Development reflects that," Gregg Gothreaux, president and CEO of LEDA, said. "Local economic indicators have rebounded and, in many cases, exceeded pre-recession levels."
Area Development magazine based its rankings on 21 indicators from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the U.S. Census American Community Survey.
Lafayette ranked first among mid-sized cities and topped the Southern cities list, and it led the list for economic strength, which included such factors as workforce, per capital real GDP, goods-producing employment and employment growth.
It ranked first among mid-sized cities and second overall in the recession-busting category and eighth among mid-sized cities in prime workforce.
The Lafayette MSA includes Lafayette and St. Martin parishes.
Area Development is a leading executive magazine that covers corporate site selection and relocation. Its circulation exceeds 45,000.
