Louisiana Economic Development estimates total of more than 250 new jobs in Acadiana with the aerospace project

LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) - This afternoon Governor Bobby Jindal came to Lafayette's Economic Development Authority with Bell Helicopter CEO John Garrison to announce a new helicopter assembly facility right here in Lafayette. The company will create 115 jobs and invest $11.4 million in equipment and tooling to produce a new helicopter that will fill the JetRanger's historic position in Bell's product portfolio. The state will fund a brand new hangar at Lafayette Regional Airport.

"This is a great quality of life. You look at the culture, you look at the families, you look at the traditions here peoplewant to stay here and now they've got the opportunities, the economic and academic opportunities where they can stay here," says Governor Bobby Jindal.

Louisiana Economic Development estimates the aerospace project will result in another 136 new, permanent indirect jobs, for a total of more than 250 jobs in Acadiana. Bell helicopter selected Louisiana for the new facility after a highly competitive site-selection process in which several states were seriously considered.
