Summer GameCamp! back in Louisiana
05/22/2006

(Lafayette) – GAMECAMP!, a career and college preparatory summer intensive program returns to Lafayette. The week-long camp will be held from July 9th to July 16th, 2006, on the main campus of the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. “We're pleased to be back at UL this summer" said Spencer Zuzolo, founder and Director of GameCamp!. “Lafayette is a very forward-looking community, and we're proud to be able to bring knowledge about the workings of the game industry to students here" he said. During the camp, students learn from industry professionals how games are made. There are lecturers, labs, and even a game design competition judged by experts. Representative Joel Robideaux, who was an early supporter of GameCamp! noted that “these kinds of workforce development programs are important to the future of our state. If kids can have a good time, and get on a solid career track to this expanding high-tech industry – we have to promote that" he said. “It's a great thing to have GameCamp! back in Lafayette this summer in the wake of the hurricanes" said Senator Mike Michot (R) Lafayette. “This program helps young people be smarter consumers of games, and they realize how hard they have to study their math and science in school if they want to have careers in the industry" he said. The game industry is growing rapidly, estimated at $50 billion dollars worldwide. Jobs in the industry require strong education and people skills, and often pay $50,000 per year or more.
